Agile Leadership Tip #7 - Collaborative Leadership
We live in a highly-connected, constantly-changing, hyper-competitive world. It is not a matter of if your company will transform but when. In this environment, your organization must constantly change. What does it take to pull this off? What does it take to be successful? Surviving and thriving in this world requires a leadership model different from traditional models.
We need a model in which the leader’s primary role is to create a culture that drives innovation and motivation. We call this collaborative leadership, and it’s based on four key concepts:
#1. Agile blossoms in a collaborative leadership environment. What do we mean by collaborative leadership? We must move away from traditional management towards a collaborative approach.
#2. Collaborative leadership requires us to create an open environment, engage the right people, foster innovation, and step back. What’s the hardest thing for you? What does it mean to step back, and how can you do this?
#3. Stepping back and letting your Team do the work.
#4. Attracting and retaining people. It’s the opposite of how we do it today.
Choose people first based on integrity. Second, based on motivation. Third, based on capacity. Fourth, based on understanding. Fifth, based on knowledge. Last, based on experience.
The above on Collaborative Leadership by Pollyanna Pixton.
This week, try to step back, guide the Team, and support them to get the work done.
